New Lufthansa Group Subsidiary Set to Start Flying Today

Lufthansa City Airlines, the newest airline of the Lufthansa Group, will commence services this June 26, 2024. The first flight VL2508 is scheduled to take off from Munich Airport at 09:10 local time with an Airbus A320neo bound for Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
Lufthansa City Airlines is committed to successfully position itself in the European short- and medium-haul segment from Munich and Frankfurt. An important investment in the future that will strengthen Germany as an aviation location and create numerous attractive jobs,” said Jens Fehlinger, CEO of Lufthansa City Airlines.
The routes offered have been available for sale through the regular channels of the Lufthansa Group with flight numbers under the new airline code “VL” since April. The first aircraft will start flights to Birmingham, Dusseldorf, Cologne, Hanover and Bremen. From July 27, the second aircraft, an Airbus A319, will have flights to Bordeaux, Hamburg and Berlin. With the estimated fleet expansion, Lufthansa City Airlines will add further destinations in Europe to its network and gradually expand it.
After the first five Airbus A320 family aircraft, the fleet will be expanded with at least eight Airbus A320neo and further A319s in the coming year. Delivery of the 40 Airbus A220-300 aircraft ordered will begin in 2026.
